The Origin Story
Great Scott Brewing was born from Scott Bell, who has a passion for crazy ideas and craft beer. When Scott first took a job as a data scientist, he earned the nickname "Doc Brown" for his experimental, crazy-enough-that-it-just-might-work approach to problem-solving. The (home) brewery applies the same scientific curiosity to every batch.
The name "GreatScott" is a double meaning — a play on founder Scott's name and Doc Brown's famous catchphrase from Back to the Future. Just like Doc Brown pushed the boundaries of what was possible, GreatScott Brewing has pushed the boundaries of homebrew through crazy recipe design and a willingness to experiment since 2015. Scott brewed a batch of homebrew nearly every week for a whole year to hone his craft and find something to do instead of studying.
Every recipe is all-grain and every batch is an experiment. From a chocolate vanilla stout to an 8-hop double dry-hopped NEIPA, GreatScott beers are crafted where the lab coat meets the brew kettle.
